Chicago native Laura Sauer is gaining attention for her warm voice, innate comedic instinct, and passionate character portrayals onstage. In the 2013-2014 season, Ms. Sauer makes her company debut with Da Corneto Opera, singing Fenena in NABUCCO. In the 2011-2012 season, she debuted with the Downers Grove Choral Society, Salt Creek Sinfonietta, and North Shore Chamber Orchestra. Laura also was a 2012 finalist in the Donald Chen Young Artist Competition.
A recent graduate of Northwestern University's prestigious Bienen School of Music, Laura earned her Masters Degree in 2010 in Voice & Opera Performance, graduating with honors. That same year, Sauer received a Bravo Award from the Bel Canto Foundation Competition, was a Studio Artist with Chautauqua Opera (Clotilda cover in NORMA,) and reprised the role of Marcellina with the Peninsula Music Festival.
In 2011, Sauer joined the roster of Sarasota Opera as a Winter Apprentice Artist, and covered Rebecca Nurse in their production of THE CRUCIBLE.
She spent summer of 2011 as an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera, and made her mainstage debut singing Mother Jeanne in DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES. Ms. Sauer was awarded the Des Moines Metro Opera Anne Larson Artist Award for her work. She was invited back to be an Apprentice Artist with DMMO in summer 2012. This summer, Sauer covered Madame Larina in one of Tchaikovsky's most performed operas, EUGENE ONEGIN. She also sang excerpts from MADAMA BUTTERFLY, THE BALLAD OF BABY DOE, & NORMA.
Ms. Sauer covered the role of Florence Pike in ALBERT HERRING for Maestro Lorin Maazel's Castleton Festival during the summer of 2009. A year earlier, she received her BM in Voice & Opera from Northwestern University.
A passionate recitalist and concert performer, Ms. Sauer has performed as the alto soloist in Mozart's REGINA COELI and CORONATION MASS, Mendelssohn's ELIJAH (all at Northwestern,) Vaughn Williams' MAGNIFICAT (University of Chicago,) Handel's MESSIAH (Salt Creek Sinfonietta,) Bach's CHRISTMAS ORATORIO (Salt Creek Sinfonietta,) & Saint-Saens CHRISTMAS ORATORIO (Downers Grove Choral Society.) She was also featured in many Russian Opera Scenes Programs with Northwestern, and was a featured soloist with Northwestern's Philharmonia Orchestra. Ms. Sauer is especially enamored with German Lieder, and has performed Liederabends as part of the AIMS in Graz Festival, and at Northwestern University. Other educational programs include Sherrill Milnes' V.O.I.C.Experience and the AIMS in Graz summer program.
Laura currently resides in Chicago.
